The task of a new commission sought and led by Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton will work to make North Carolina high school curricula more relevant to emerging employment fields in local communities.
The Joining Our Businesses and Schools Commission is set to meet for the first time Monday and Tuesday in Raleigh.
Dalton is the chairman of the 20-member JOBS panel that aims to build on the state's "early college" high schools pushed by former Gov. Mike Easley. The schools let students earn college credit or learn technical and health care skills designed to help them get jobs when they graduate.
Scheduled speakers include Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson, community college system President Scott Ralls and the head of the North Carolina Chamber.
