The Apex Emergency Communication Center receives more than 10,000 calls a year. Now, they are getting new equipment to make sure residents get the help they need.
The Town Council approved $427,000 for the project. They plan to purchase new 911 telephone and radio systems, consoles for the dispatchers and a recording system for the center.
This emergency center is connected to the police and fire departments. Apex Police Chief Jack Lewis said the safety of the community relies on this equipment.
"That's the link between the caller and the responders so the better we do a that role, the better the service we provide," Lewis said.
The equipment will be installed into the new police station that is under construction and is planned to open at the end of the year.
