Eighth grader Spencer Calwell has wanted to be a detective like his grandpa.
This week, he got the chance to try it out.
Children in Apex had the opportunity to come face to face with the law in a fun way with the Police Department's Youth Enrichment Camp
The Apex police Department put the kids through an obstacle course and probes, took them on a trip to the Wake County jail and also gave them some investigative tips.
Officers set up crime scenes and assigned jobs to each child on Thursday. They gathered the evidence and had to report what they thought happened with the help of Apex P-D investigators.
Calwell loved it.
"We're doing CSI stuff. We're investigating a murder and break in," he said. "I like to learn all this stuff and it helps to start at a young age."
About 18 kids participated in the camp.
