Pretty negative comments. It all seems terrible here--until you visit Ohio, Michigan, California, etc. It's tough out there all over the country. Our small business barely survived--but we did against all odds. When I visit relatives out of state, I do feel fortunate to live here. There are after all, other places to move to.

If you are SO unsatisfied with your residence in NC, you are more than welcome to pick one of the 49 other wonderful states in this great country to call home. Some of us happen to like the "good ole' boy" ways that we use here in the Old North State. I'm sure you'd be much happier in one of the more "politically correct" states about 500 miles to the north of here, or over in good ole' California.

I've lived in NC for 20 years so I'm guessing "prestigious" Site Selection magazine was paid-off nicely by someone else in NC for this ranking. (There is so much good ol' boy back-room deal bull**** in this state, it makes me sick.) Our unemployment rate is hovering around 10% just like everywhere else. The larger businesses still afloat aren't hiring or paying very well. Small businesses don't pay crap or provide any benefits, only staying open long enough to abuse the tax code (writing-off everything from family vacations, SUVs, personal computers, groceries and hunting/golfing equipment as business expenses) before they shut down and re-open their next tax evasion scheme. If NC is the "top", I'd hate to see who finished last.

Sure, since NC has one of the largest % 's of illegal immigrants and H-1B visa foreign workers. Not to mention that NC has a long reputation of being able to "purchase" variances to ordinances.
