The event marks the founding of the university in Chapel Hill which took place on Oct. 12, 1793. That's 216 years ago, making UNC the oldest public school in America.
The address will begin at 11 a.m. at Memorial Hall.
Other convocation highlights will include performances by student musicians and the presentation of distinguished alumna and alumnus awards.
Also as part of University Day, there will be a dedication ceremony for the Botanical Garden at UNC.
The garden's new education center has the highest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification of any public building in the state.
Gov. Bev Perdue will attend the event at 2 p.m. Monday.
