A conservative student group on UNC's campus is without a faculty advisor after retired professor Elliot Cramer was forced to resign for making comments about using a gun.
Fliers were posted anonymously around campus that targeted the professor for advising the group "Youth For Western Civilization". The fliers called the group racist and ask why Cramer is supporting white supremacy.
After seeing the posted fliers, a group member alerted Cramer. Cramer wrote an email saying "Thanks for your concern. I have a Colt 45 and I know how to use it."
Cramer tells NBC17 it was an off-hand remark and was never meant to be taken that seriously.
"I didn't event think twice about that 45 comment. Then when I got an email from the Chancellor referring to it and saying it was inappropriate, I was really rather taken aback," said Cramer.
Cramer was asked to resign shortly after Chancellor Holden Thorp read Cramer's response.
In a statement, Thorp said "He sent an email that was highly inappropriate and not consistent with the civil disclosure we are trying to achieve."
Back in April, the group sponsored a speech on campus that led to several arrests.

Amazing that the Chancellor feels the gun comment was not consistent with civil discourse but makes no comment at all about anonymous people accusing Cramer of being a white supremacist and how that affects "civil discourse." (I think disclosure is a misprint)
