YOUNGSVILLE, N.C. --

Franklin County Public Utilities experienced three wastewater spills in the surrounding area on December 2, 2009. All of the spills were directly related to the heavy rainfall received that drenched the area in a short period of time on Wednesday. Precipitation totals for the event exceeded 3.5" as of late Wednesday night. A total of 20,250 gallons of untreated wastewater was lost during the event.

The first spill was reported at the Franklinton Pump Station and resulted in a bypass of approximately 12,000 gallons. The third spill was reported near the intersection of Cedar Creek Rd/Hill Rd and was estimated at 1,500 gallons.

Franklin County Public Utilities staff remained in place to monitor these sites during the rainfall event. Necessary adjustments to the collection system were performed and clean up efforts have commenced.
