FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. --

Three wastewater spills occurred Wednesday in Franklin County as a result of the recent heavy rainfall.

Franklin County Public Utilities said all of the spills were directly related to the heavy rainfall received from the remnants of Hurricane Ida. A total of 33,300 gallons of untreated wastewater was lost.

The first spill was reported at the Franklinton Pump Station and resulted in the loss of about 12,450 gallons. The second spill occurred near the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Lane Store Road and about 19,500 gallons of untreated wastewater was lost. The third spill was reported near the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Hill Road and was estimated at 1,350 gallons.

Utility officials say adjustments to the collection system were performed and clean up efforts, if needed, will begin once the rain has stopped.

Officials said as of Wednesday night, a total of 4.5" of rain was recorded.
