DURHAM, N.C. -

The Museum of Life and Science is opening Dinosaur Trail on Saturday, July 25. Based on current paleontological research, this exhibit features life-sized, scientifically-accurate dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous, North American period - between 100 and 65 million years ago. Visitors will come within reach of realistic looking dinosaur models, including the 65-foot-long Alamosaurus. The site also has a 1,000 square-foot Fossil Dig Site. Guests are encouraged to grab a bucket, and a sieve and to sift through fossil dirt from Aurora, North Carolina. The Dig Site contains fossilized marine life such as coral, shells, and sharks teeth that are 23 million to 5 million years old. Anything guests find is theirs to keep.

To further set the tone of the times, the trail is beautifully landscaped with plants that represent the late Cretaceous period, including Cinnamon Fern, Horsetail Grass and Southern Magnolia.

The Museum of Life and Science is located at 433 Murray Avenue in Durham, North Carolina. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $10.50 for Seniors (age 65 and older), $9.50 for children 3 - 12 and free for under 3. Free parking is available at the Museum of Life and Science and at Brogden Middle School, located at 1001 Leon Street. A free shuttle service will run between Brogden Middle School and the Museum on Saturday, July 25 between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, July 26 from 12 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. To learn more about the Museum of Life and Science, call 919.220.5429 or visit www.lifeandscience.org.
