- Training includes a staged trauma situation.
The Holly Springs Fire Department and WakeMed are working together to help save lives.
WakeMed held a landing zone safety class at Womble Park in Holly Springs. The hospital helicopter landed with the help of the fire department. The groups went on to do a mock drill as if a trauma situation had occurred.
WakeMed Paramedic and Regional Outreach Coordinator Kim Miller said this is an important exercise in communication between the fire department and helicopter pilots.
"We come out and do these with different fire departments and agencies around the area. The main focus is to teach them how to safely get us on the ground and with teamwork safely get the patients in and increase their chances of survival," Miller said.
The group also held a training session in a classroom setting earlier in the day.
