NORTH CAROLINA

Two correctional officers and a former guard have been arrested after at least 11 inmates say they saw them beat an inmate with nightsticks last year while he was handcuffed and shackled at the ankles.

Multiple media outlets reported Friday that Gregory Beck, Terry Bell and Brian Bostick face felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting serious injury.

Correction Department Chief Deputy Secretary Jennie Lancaster says the March 2008 beating was one of the worst things she has seen in her 32 years in prisons.

Lancaster says the incident happened in a blind spot for the numerous security cameras at the maximum security Maury Correctional Institution in Greene County.

Inmate David Richardson is serving nine years for robbery.
