Nineteen Airmen from the 43rd Civil Engineer Squadron here will deploy Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. en route to Norfolk, Va. and an aircraft that will take them to Southwest Asia for a six-month deployment in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
The 43rd CES has approximately 200 uniformed personnel; they have deployed more than 100 Airmen in support of the Global War on Terrorism over the past two years. They currently have Airmen deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and several other countries in Southwest Asia.
Primary duties for the 43rd CES Airmen during this deployment include maintenance and upkeep of their air base and all of its infrastructure and related equipment. In addition, the team will work with one of the only Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems in Southwest Asia. The MAAS is designed to stop aircraft equipped with a tail-hook during in-flight emergencies and periods of inclement weather.
