FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

Fayetteville police say five people were injured in an early morning accident Friday on Shaw Mill Road in Fayetteville.

According to police, at around 2:50 a.m. Friday a driver of a black Mazda Miata was driving down Bragg Road when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a van carrying four people.

The driver of the Miata was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center but was expected to be transported by helicopter to UNC Hospitals.

The four passengers in the van received non-life threatening injuries.

Police say speed played a factor in the accident but it is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol played a factor.

I was the first to arrive to the seen. I was approached by the driver of the white van. The black convertible was on fire and the passenger of the black car was screaming “my brother… my brother!!” First thing was first! Van was leaking some sorts of fluid so we needed to get these people out of there! I moved the two older gentleman in the back of the van down the road a ways and as soon as were about to move the driver two squad cars pulled up. The police helped myself and the driver of the white van move the driver of the black car up the road a ways and as soon as we set him down the black car blew up. I was very pleased to have arrived when I did but wasn’t for sure how the driver was going to make it. I’m glad to know that he is OK now. God Bless! : )
