FORT BRAGG, N.C.

Attorneys representing a New York National Guard sergeant charged with killing two superiors are set to resume their case.

The court-martial of staff Sgt. Alberto Martinez is scheduled to continue Friday after a one-day break. The military judge recessed court on Wednesday after telling jurors that defense witnesses wouldn't be available Thursday.

Defense lawyers began questioning their witnesses more than a week ago.

Martinez has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder in the 2005 deaths of 30-year-old Capt. Phillip Esposito of Suffern, N.Y., and 34-year-old 1st Lt. Louis Allen of Milford, Pa.

The judge has told the jury that defense lawyers expect to wrap up their case Monday.
