Central North Carolina Gets First Snow Of The Season
Credit: AP Online
RALEIGH, N.C. -

More than a week before Thanksgiving and more than a month before the official start of winter, cold wind chills and snow were in the forecast Tuesday for central North Carolina.

After a weekend of severe weather across the state, a cold front Monday night ushered in the coldest air of the season so far. Typical highs this time of year are in the lower 60s, but by Tuesday afternoon temperatures were only in the 40s and feels like numbers were only in the 30s.

In addition to the cold weather Tuesday, parts of central North Carolina also received the first snow of the season.  It came in the form of flurries along with wind gusts close to 30 miles per hour. Tuesday's snow did not bring any accumulation, but it was only a short time ago that we had record heat of 80 degrees and now we are talking about flurries.

The forecast also calls for temperatures Tuesday night into Wednesday morning to reach down into the 20s, including wind chill numbers in the teens for Wednesday morning's commute. While temperatures are expected to warm slightly by Thursday, another cold front shows up on the seven day forecast Friday.

Although the area is expecting a cold forecast, it is generally dry, which is good news for families and friends affected by this past weekend's storms and tornadoes.
