Traffic is back to normal on Bragg Boulevard after crews cleared a car accident, that began as a police chase.
Fayetteville police conducted a driver's license checkpoint in the area of Blount and Glidden Streets around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
When a driver attempted to avoid the checkpoint, police pulled the driver over. As officers questioned the driver, the driver sped away, according to police.
Officers followed and engaged in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended when the vehicle was involved in a traffic accident on Bragg Boulevard at Glenwood Drive.
The vehicle pulled in front of a 1994 GMC truck driven by Robert Whitaker of Sanford.
Sanford was driving southeast on Bragg Boulevard and struck the vehicle head on. Whitaker was not injured.
The driver of the vehicle of the pursuit was flown to UNC-Chapel Hill for severe injuries. He is listed in critical condition. The name of the driver isn't being released at this time.
When officers search the car, they found more than one pound of marijuana individually packaged for resale.
No charges have been filed at this time.
