CHARLOTTE, N.C.

Hazardous materials and bomb squad crews are responding to a suspicious package delivered to the North Carolina Air National Guard base near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

A spokeswoman for the Air National Guard said personnel deemed the package delivered Wednesday morning suspicious. They called in responders to further examine the parcel.

The Charlotte Fire Department sent in a hazardous materials team to investigate.

Lt. Col. Rose Dunlap of the Air National Guard said radiation and other tests were negative. She said a team that deals with explosive material was coming to dispose of it.

Dunlap said there was no danger to nearby airplanes. She did not know why the package was considered suspicious.
