JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -

Law enforcement officers can now sharpen their marksmanship skills using highly-realistic video-based training at Johnston Community College.

Earlier this year, the College purchased a PRISim simulator, which utilizes DVD technology to create digital hostile environments that are about as close as you can get to the real thing.

Available to sworn officers, the equipment helps the officers experience judgment calls, sudden fear, decision-making, and other realities of an operational encounter. Instructors can select from hundreds of situational scenarios for the officers to test their survival skills.

Sarah Conerly, a patrol officer in Smithfield, said she preferred the simulator over the firing range because it doesn't use live ammunition and was easier to practice her control actions.

"It's by far the best all-in-one firearms training I've ever had," she said. "I would highly recommend it to all law enforcement departments and the military."

Adam Jones, also a police officer for nine years, said he liked the self-correcting ability of the equipment.

"It's very realistic," Jones said. "You can use your tactics in use-of-force situations and practice your safety precautions as well."

That looks like Wolfenstein 3d from the early 90's. Totally radically advanced I'm sure.
