Clayton Police Checkpoint Results In Nine DWI Charges

CLAYTON, N.C. -

The Clayton Police Department held a DWI checkpoint at the intersection of NC Highway 42 West and Amelia Church Road from 11:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5 to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6. Officers from the Clayton Police Department were joined by officers from the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Princeton Police Department, and Wilsons Mills Police Department. The operation included use of breath
alcohol testing mobile units, better known as the "BAT Mobile" sponsored by the Governor's Highway Safety Program. Representatives of the District Attorney's Office and a local magistrate were also on scene.

This checkpoint resulted in nine DWI charges, a drug charge, and forty-seven other charges.

The checkpoint operation was coordinated by Segeant K. L. Lunger, Jr. of the Clayton Police Department Traffic Unit.

Labor Day weekend, the state wide "Booze it & Lose it" campaign celebrated its 15th anniversary. The campaign is an effort by local and state law enforcement agencies to raise awareness and stop individuals from drinking and driving.
