DURHAM, N.C. -
Emergency crews were called to Northern Durham High School after receiving reports of a suspicious package on campus.
Principal John Colclough tells NBC17 school staff spotted the package when they arrived at school around 6:50 a.m.
Michael Yarbrough, public information officer for Durham Public Schools, said the package was found near the front office, but it was quickly determined that it was an empty suitcase.
The front office was evacuated as a precaution, but classes remained in session, according to Yarbrough.
Yarbrough adds that the school has returned to its normal operations.
