The North Carolina Central University Art Museum presents "Durham's Finest," an annual exhibition of outstanding student artwork from all traditional schools in the Durham Public Schools system. This show, which runs Jan. 11-30, features four two-dimensional pieces of art selected from each of the district's schools, along with some three-dimensional artwork.

"Durham's Finest" is DPS' only district-wide art exhibit. It shows the progression and artistic development of the students from kindergarten through high school. By hosting the exhibit, NCCU Art Museum gives the students the rare opportunity to see their artwork in a real museum setting.

The opening floating reception is Sunday, January 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. for the young artists, their families, friends, school officials and board members from both DPS and NCCU. Welcoming remarks will be made throughout the afternoon by Kenneth Rodgers, Director of the NCCU Art Museum, and Mary Casey, Director of K-12 Arts Education for DPS. Refreshments will be served. Friends, families and the public are welcome.

Following the reception, "Durham's Finest" can be enjoyed during the museum's regular operating schedule: Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. until January 30. The museum is closed on Saturdays, Mondays and university holidays. Group visits may be arranged. Call Kenneth Rodgers at 530-5079 or email him at krodgers@nccu.edu.
